Aphrodite. The goddess of love, beauty and desire, was born according to
Hesiod, from the foams in the sea of Kythera, formed by the fall of the genitals of Uranus, father of Saturn. She was adored as a patron saint of sailors since her name was associated with the brightest planet Venus, the precious guide of Navigation. She became historically known, through all her qualities, as responsible for the epic Trojan War, winning the competition launched by Eris by offering
a golden apple to the most beautiful goddess, judged by Paris.
The statue was found in 1820, by a farmer, in Milos. Today, after unholy negotiations at that time, it is at the
Louvre Museum.
