Demeter. Goddess of fruitfulness. Goddess of fertility. Goddess sponsor of food, spiritual and material. The myth connects it directly with the abduction of Persephone by Hades, the god of the Underworld. Blurred by the beauty of Dimitra's daughter, the god grabs her and leads her to the Underworld. In vain did Demeter seek to find her, asking for help even from Zeus, who was an accomplice since he knew the intentions of Hades. Learning the common secret, Dimitra became angry and stopped the fruitfulness of the earth. Hunger plagued people. Hermes as mediator brought Persephone back. But only for 9 months a year. During these months the earth bears fruit. The other 3 in Hell, nothing sprouts.
